A joint meeting of doctors and leaders of various communities of Moreh was convened at Moreh Hospital regarding to discuss the rising number of malaria cases in the border town.
Dr S Priyokumar, Dr Linthoingambi and officials of malaria cell, MCM representatives N Inaocha and H Manglemba, Tamil Sangam representative S Rabichandra took part in the meeting.
According to the report given by Dr Priyokumar, out of 186 fever cases admitted in the hospital between June 1 and July 9, 22 were diagnosed with malaria.
Priyokumar said that as dengue fever was detected in November 2007 in the border town, Government took up various measures like DDT fogging, imparting health awareness and distribution of insecticides.
Despite all these measures malaria cases are on the rise, Priyokumar said and added that the meeting is therefore convened in the interest of the public.
