Imphal, June 10 2013:
The proposed village road construction from Huishu to Khamasom Phungrei in Ukhrul district approved under PMGSY Phase VIII Part I & II has been wrongly aligned and demarcated without the consent and interest of villages under Border Area Villages' Association (BAVA) .
The villages alleged that the alignment was done with the instigation of some selfish individuals and departments concerned.
The stretch of the road is unnecessarily lengthened and will cross a narrow stream every after half kilometre, which will be difficult to maintain the road.
Also the approved road is a way means to siphon off the money at the expense of rural populace, as the road is maintained and managed by the village development fund of the concerned villages.
BAVA secretary Tuithing Zingkhai told media persons that the best connectivity road is Huishu via Muzae and Ayuhan river to Khamasom Phungrei which will even shorten in distance and easily accessible to them.
He further pointed out that strong opposition to the approved road was highlighted to the Chief Minister through memorandum today while also demanding immediate change of the approved road in the wide interest of the villages.
A copy of the memorandum was also sent to the Chief Secretary, Manipur and concerned MLA for necessary action.
In case the same alignment is executed, the villages demanded that immediate pre-measurement be conducted from Huishu to Khamasom Phungrei road to repay back the expenditure incurred in construction and maintaining the road refunded by the Govt to concerned village development committee.
Denying which they will face the wrath of the BAVA villages, it warned.
