Arambam Samarendra remembered on his 13th Death Anniversary

Imphal, June 10 2013:
The 13th death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra, who was not only a playwright and lyricist but also fought for upliftment of women, equality of farmers and for unity and integrity of Manipur, was observed throughout the state and beyond by several organizations today.
The main observance was held at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai under the joint aegis of Arambam Samarendra Memorial Trust and Social Standard Club (SSC) along with offering rich floral tributes to the life size statue of the late social activist installed at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai ground.
Speaking on the occasion, Salam Shamungou, Vice President of SSC, stated that Manipur is in urgent need of someone like Arambam Samarendra, who had done his level best in all fields for the welfare of the people.
He further stated that the main purpose of observing the death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra is to instill the philosophy of the late social activist in the minds of present generation so that the vacant place created along with passing away of Arambam Samarendra can be filled up.

The death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra was also observed at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen under the aegis of Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC) today.
The function, which was attended by Dr M Nara, Chief Advisor of MSSLC and P Gunachandra, President of MSSLC as Chief Guest and President respectively, was marked by offering of floral tributes to the photograph of the late social activist.
Naba Wareppa, President of Theatre Centre and Y Nabachandra, President of UCM were also present as Guests of Honour.
Pari Imom Kanba Lup observed the Death Anniversary of Arambam Samarendra at Lainingthou Puthiba Laibung at Khurai Lamlong Thongkhong today where the 4th State Level Painting Competition and ex-tempore Speech Competition were also conducted.
Sairem Nilbir, member of Kangla Fort Board and Nongthombam Pradipkumar, President of Pari Imom Kanba Lup attended the function as Chief Guest and President respectively.
The Death Anniversary of Arambam Samarendra was also observed by Patriotic Writers' Forum at Manipur Press Club here today along with a discussion session on the life and works of the late social activist.
The inaugural session of the observance was attended by Dr Kh Sorojini, President of LEIKOL and Prof Jodhachandra Sanasam as Chief Guest and President respectively.
The two dignitaries led the rest of the gathering in offering floral tributes to the departed soul of Arambam Samarendra.
In the second session, which was attended by Birendrajit Naorem as Chief Guest, a poetry recitation was felicitated.
A State Level Cheibi Competition was also held at Ima Laikherembi Shanglen in Khurai Sajor Leikai today as a part of the death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra.
A district level essay completion and a symposium were also held as a part of observance at Oinam in Bishnupur district.
The Meitei Council Moreh (MCM) also observed the death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra at its hall in Moreh where a discussion session was organized.
In Jiribam, the observance was held under the aegis of Jiri Development Organisation at the office of Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup.
The observation was also held at Cachar and Hojai in Assam.
All Assam Manipuri Women Meira Paibi Co-ordination Committee observed the death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra at Cachar while the observation at Hojai was held at the hall of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad under the auspices of Aeiba Lup, Hojai.
On the occasion, cultural troupes from various communities presented dances and songs.
For the first time in Tripura, the 13th death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra was observed under the auspices of Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur at the hall of Voluntary Health Association today.
The function was attended by Thingom Benubabu, President of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam; Kanta Singh, President of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Mizoram; Wangkhem Birmangol, Assistant Secretary of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura; Haorongbam Amarendra, President of Manipuri Literary Society, Assam; Haorongbam Rajmani, Associate Prof in Assam University and I Basanta, Executive member of Patriotic Writers Forum, Manipur as presidium members.
Rakesh Naorem, Secretary of Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur delivered the key note address of the function.
