With the establishment of Education Cell, AMADA has geared up to spread awareness on the ill-effects of drug abuse among school students under the theme 'prevention of drug abuse and illicit trafficking'.
Speaking to reporters about the proposed academic awareness programme, co-ordinator of the Education Cell H Surjit stressed on the importance of instilling awareness to the young students regarding menace of drug abuse.
The Education Cell is composed of seven members.
Moreover, an expert team of 25 members has been constituted to undertake the proposed academic awareness programme in different schools, he disclosed.
The expert team would include psychiatrists, physicians and law experts.
The team would go to different schools and conduct discussion programmes besides delivering lectures on several topics under the theme 'drug abuse, illicit trafficking'.
In the first phase, only one school will be selected from each of the nine districts for the awareness programme, said Surjit.
The programme would be kick-started tomorrow at Hundred Flowers Higher Secondary School located in Imphal East district.
Further, the newly established Education Cell has submitted memoranda to the Minister and Departments concerned today demanding inclusion of chapters on ill-effects and social impacts of drug abuse in the school syllabi.
