Manipur has obviously become the happy hunting ground for a number of frauds and dupesters to fool the public and walk away with cool money.
And of course the problem of unemployment has only added to the prospects of these smooth operators, who promises the moon only to leave those taken in by the promises in the lurch in some big, bad cities of the country.
The latest victims include eight youths who were lured away by a recruitment firm on the promises that they would be employed as security officers and business officers in private firms at Mumbai, Goa and Chennai.
Apart for the other qualifications that were spelt out for their recruitment, the youths had to shell out certain amount of money to get their jobs.
However as it turned out, the eight youths were left in the lurch after their contact men did the disappearing act with their money.
At the moment the hapless youths are taking shelter with the Manipur Students' Union, Mumbai.
General secretary of the student body, A Herojit informed The Sangai Express that the gullible youths were taken in by an advertisement put up by a firm christened MS Silver Star with its headquarters given as Porompat.
The advertisement, which appeared in the State dailies, had announced the recruitment of security officers and business officers in Mumbai, Chennai and Goa.
Each had to fork out Rs 10,000.However when they reached Mumbai, the representative of Silver Star disappeared.
The youths were escorted upto Mumbai by the branch manager of Silver Star KC Singh and one L Khelen of Thoubal Athok-pam, said the student leader adding that they left Imphal on November 1 and reached Mumbai on November 5.Herojit said that the student body is on the look out for the two who have disappeared in Mumbai and added that the 8 youths include two from Kakching (one has left for home), three from Imphal East, one from Singjamei, one from Senapati and another one front Uripok.
The student has offered them temporary boarding for the moment, said Herojit adding that all of them have run out of money.
"We have received information that another 7 including girls are being taken in by Silver Star" said Herojit and asked all to be aware of their nefarious activities.
