Imphal, December 07:
The Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has cautioned the people of Manipur against 'a handful of people' who are trying to mislead them on the issue of revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958.Referring to the advertisement appearing in State dailies in connection with a proposed mass rally against AFSPA on December 10, publicity sub-committee ot Working Committee of the Apunba Lup said that the content of the advertisement with regard to demand for repealing the Act and the claim made by the 'delegates' who back agreeing to the Prime Minister's proposal for reviewing the Act was quite contradictory.
Such incongruous stand of the delegates might mislead the people and smacks of a conspiracy to compromise the demand of the people with the Govern1 merit of India, a statement of the publicity sub-committee said today.
In the first place, the name of Working Committee of Apunba Lup should not have been misused in bringing out the advertisement, the statement said, asserting that 'delegates' who met the Prime Minister on October 31 at New Delhi are not true representatives of the Lup.
The delegates have gone to New Delhi on their own accord and they are not the true representatives of the Apunba Lup, the statement said.
It is rather intriguing that these 'handful of people' who had earlier proclaimed of having made a breaking through in agreeing to the proposal of reviewing AFSPA and substituting it with a ' humane' Act should now fall in line with the public demand for complete revocation of the Act.
This only shows that they (delegates) do not have any fixed stand of their own and act on their own sweet will, the statement criticised, while cautioning the people from taken by the words of such double-standard people.
The statement further informed that as part of the ongoing agitation against prolonged imposition of AFSPA, the Apunba Lup has resumed its civil disobedience movement with banning of teaching Hindi text-books and NCC activities in the State.
They also appealed to the people for participation in the International Human Rights Day function being jointly organised by Apunba Lup and United Nations Assn.
