Bandh status still not yet clear

The JAC against Atrocities of Central Security Forces, Chandel district has announced its decision to suspend the indefinite bandh along the Imphal-Moreh section of NH-102 from this midnight.
However a late evening report said that the bandh is still on as no agreement could be reached amongst the bandh enforcers during a meeting held late into the night.
Earlier speaking to media persons, Doumang Haokip, convener of the JAC said that the decision to suspend the indefinite bandh was taken after receiving assurance from the Government to fulfil the charter of demands raised by the JAC.
The indefinite bandh began from midnight of Jan 29 to protest alleged harassment of travellers along the Highway by security personnel.
The JAC representatives were assured by Chief Minister O Ibobi during a meeting today that the charter of demands raised by them would be placed before the Unified Command meeting for deliberation, according to Doumang Haokip.
During the meeting, the CM also assured to fulfil the demands of the JAC.
Following the assurance, the JAC decided to suspend the bandh from this midnight, Doumang added.
The meeting today was also attended amongst others by Dy CM Gaikhangam, Tengnoupal AC MLA D Korungthang and Chandel ADC Chairman Lhukhosei Zou.
While expressing gratitude to all individuals and civil organisations who extended support and endorsed the agitation, Sk Angshel Lamkang, co-convenor of the JAC appealed to all concerned to extend cooperation and extend support to the JAC in future whenever the committee fight for the cause of the general public in this regard.
