Imphal, February 04 2015:
The 12-hour dawn to dusk statewide general strike has affected normal life in the State on Wednesday.
However, there was no report of any untoward incident during the course of the strike which concluded at 5 pm.
The strike was called by United Committee Manipur (UCM) as part of extending support to the ongoing indefinite bandh along Imphal-Moreh route over the frequent harassment of villagers besides imposing restriction to their free movement by troops 24 Assam Rifles deployed along the Tengnoupal sector of the highway.

The normal life in the State capital was affected as most of the market places and other business establishments along with the educational institutions remained closed since early morning.
Most inter-state passenger and good carriers including the noisy auto-rickshaws failed to hit the Imphal roads in view of the strike.
However, reports from the popular bus stands in Imphal claimed that few passenger vehicles from outside the State reached Imphal in the afternoon without any disturbance during the strike.
As the strike was supported by the transporters and drivers bodies, movement of commercial vehicles was not seen except the private vehicles.
The strike had no impact on air traffic at Imphal international airport and also at some areas in the hills.
