Miscreants rob truck drivers, handymen at FCI Godown

Imphal, February 04 2015:
Unidentified persons numbering around five to six armed with sticks reportedly assaulted and snatched mobile phones and cash from drivers and handymen of two trucks while the vehicles were waiting for their turns to unload rice at FCI, Sangaiprou Godown under Lamphel Police Station, Imphal West on Tuesday around 11 pm.
The unidentified persons also shattered windshield glasses of the trucks.
First, they attacked driver Augustin Mao (24) s/o Phokolo Mao of Makhan village, Senapati district and handyman Ato (23) s/o Vechisu of Chumukedima in Dimapur.
They were on the truck bearing registration no NL01G-2563 waiting for their turn to unload FCI rice at the godown.
Wife of Augustin Mao identified as Asi Ekhe (26) was on the same vehicle when the incident took place.
She was also forced to get down from the vehicle for questioning.
Driver and handyman of another truck bearing registration no AS017B-0286 identified as Laishram Basanta (28) s/o L Binodbabu of Cachar, Assam and Ashibu (17) s/o Mashinijao of Chumukedima in Dimapur respectively were also beaten up black and blue.
Apart from damaging windshield glasses of the two trucks, the unidentified persons also forcibly took away two mobile phones and a cash amount of Rs 7200 from the drivers and handymen.
Meanwhile, Highway Truck Owners' Welfare Organization and Manipur Drivers' Welfare Association have jointly filed a complaint at Lamphel Police Station to nab the culprits involved in the act at the earliest and award punishment in accordance to law.
