Condemning the Cabinet proposal that some portion of a village in Ukhrul district will be bartered away in exchange for another plot of land in the vicinity of Moreh town, the All Naga Students� Association Manipur (ANSAM) has warned the State Government of serious and unrepairable consequences, if an inch of Naga�s land is bartered away in lieu of another.
In a press statement ANSAM president Paul Langhu asked the State Government not to play with people's sentiments as it could prove disastrous to the people as well as the State.
Such politics should not be resorted to, said the student body Expressing concern about the academic career of students in the State, it urged the State Government to make the newly created office of the Additional Director of Education (S) Hills functional.
Now, that the academic year 2004 is coming to an end, it is pertinent for the Government to engage more of its time to education as it will be in the interest of all that the myriad of educational problems besetting the state particularly in the hills be solved at the earliest.
Highlighting the various ills afflicting the hill schools, the statement said due to acute shortage of science and Mathematics teachers, infrastructures, school buildings education system in the hills have been suffering for a very long time.
It urged the Govt to address these issues on priority basis failing which the association will be compelled to agitate.
