12 MADRAS under the aegis of 27 Sector Assam Rifles in continuance of its persistent efforts to weed out nefarious activities in Churachandpur, on 01 June 10 recovered contraband in the region.
An input was received by the unit regarding stacking of ganja in the village of Tollen by some unidentified people.
A search party was launched and during the relentless search approximately 130 kilograms of ganja was recovered.
The recovery has been made in a fortnights time of holding an alternate crop distribution ceremony by the Sector at Churachandpur in which alternate crops of ginger were distributed to the effected persons by the cannabis/ poppy destruction operations undertaken by the Sector earlier and was attended by various military and civil dignitaries.
27 Sector under the aegis of Red Shield Division has endeavored to reach the root of the drug menace and uproot the cause of it from Churachandpur.
In doing so, the Sector had identified the areas of poppy/ cannabis cultivation in the region, carried out destruction of the cultivated contraband crops, interacted with NGOs for identification of the routes of transshipment through Churachandpur, organized various sports events of badminton and football to draw the youth towards sports, undertook training of youth for Army and Assam Rifles recruitment rallies and organized the alternate crop distribution ceremony.
