The Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today strongly charged the authority of the state government implementing the Sharva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in the state of not supplying text books to the students for the current academic session.
The text books for the students from Standard I to IIIV are to be provided free of cost under the Central sponsored SSA Scheme, education secretary of DESAM observed talking to reporters today at its office at Keishampat.
He revealed that as per intimation from the director of state SSA to the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) on March 12 last, the board was asked to supply 3,72,331 copies of text books for English medium, 43,223 copies of Manipuri medium and 1,080 copies of special category.
The text books are mean for onward distribution to the students studying government and aided schools in the state from Standard-III to IIIV.
But, till date the books not distributing to the students even though commencement of the sessions have entered two months, he lamented.
The delay in the distribution of text books will give an impact in bringing quality education in the state which all section of the society are yarning for.
While suggesting that the communication gap between the authorities of SSA and BSEM could be the reason behind the delay in the distribution of the text books, he drew the attention of the higher authorities of the state government to ensure early distribution of the text books to the needy students.
General secretary of DESAM, Angamba Moirangthem who also took part in the press briefing expressed his willingness to add news provisions in the SSA for improving the education scenario of the state.
