Ukhrul headquarters witnessed a public outrage tonight with the whole of denizens in the town came out to protest against the alleged security forces high-handedness.
The 72-hour bandh called by Tangkhul organisations is underway and when the volunteers enforcing the bandh were picked up by the IRB personnel present in the town and allegedly started roughing up the youths, the public in no time erupted in anger against the security forces.
Clanging of electric posts and war-cry were witnessed tonight in the town.
When the people in large number came out to show their resentments over the alleged high-handedness of the IRB personnel, the latter opened blank fire and resorted to mob-controlling weapons.
Many were injured in the tussle.
Thousands of people headed toward the office of the Superintendent of Police.
The mob hurled stones at the SP's office.
Police opened fire in the blank.
The mob also set on fire the official Gypsy allotted to the DC Ukhrul, which was parked at Gandhi Chowk.
Though reports have not been received yet, it is believed that some casualties might have occurred.
