Imphal, October 01:
A 38-year old man has been hospitalised at RIMS after being assaulted by some drunken 3 IRB personnel posted at the station of Power Grid Corporation Limited of India (PGCLI) located under Patsoi Police Station at around 7.40 pm yesterday.
The victim who is currently undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital has been identified as Ngasepam Surchandra alias Inaotomba s/o Ng Budhi Singh of Yurembam Makha Mamang Leikai.
According to the victim, he was coming home on his bike after seeing off one of his friends, who had come to return Rs 40,000 borrowed from him.
As he approached the PGCLI station, a Mahindra Jeep tried to overtake him without giving any signal, thereby leading to some arguments.
After having overtaken his bike, the Mahindra Jeep stopped and waited for him in front of the PGCLI gate.
The occupants of the Jeep who turned out to be Home Guard personnel stationed at PGCLI station stopped him and they were talking over the matter, when there was a call on his mobile phone to which Surchandra replied that he was talking with some kids.
On hearing that the drunken IRB personnel posted at the station and who have no connection with the earlier incident, started beating him up after dragging him inside the gate.
Apart from threatening to shoot him down, the IRB personnel also took away not only Rs 40000 which Surchandra kept inside the front pocket of his shirt, but also 1 kg of Apple that he brought for offering to God on gun point.
Some of the local people also informed that after the MR personnel have been shifted from the PGCLI station, there have been frequent cases of excesses committed by the newly posted IRB personnel on the innocent people of the area.
Meanwhile, condemning the action of the IRB personnel in beating with Surchandra brutally, Yurembam Apunba Club and Yurembam Apunba Meira Paibi have appealed to the authorities concerned to take up action against the guilty IRB personnel.
