The 110th birth anniversary of pioneering public leader Hijam Irabot was observed yesterday not only in Manipur but also at Bangladesh where rich tributes were paid to the leader and the people recalled his contribution to the evolution of Manipuri society.
A newly constructed status of the Jananeta was unveiled and dedicated to the people of Bangladesh during the observance function held at Meitei settlement village of Vhangbul Majergao, Adampur Bazar, Kamlagonj and Moulvi Bazar district by Irabot Foundation, Manipur president Thounaojam Iboyaima.
The function was held in two session, in the morning session and afterno.
The morning session was attended by ADC of Moulvi Bazar District Motiur Rahaman as chief guest and IMA president AK Seram as functional president.
Apart from Irabot Foundation, Manipur president Thounaojam Iboyaima who has been conferred the title of Father of Social Worker, other leaders who have come from Manipur to take part in the function, namely president of All Manipur Mental Handicapped Persons Welfare Association Chongtham Ningol Pramodini Devi, secretary of Editors' Froum Manipur Kh Loyalakpa and member of Irabot Foundation Manipur Ph Devananda Sharma also graced the occasion as guests of honour.
In the afternoon session, a discussion session on the life and works of Irabot was facilitated.
Back home, The Jananeta Irawat Birthday Celebration Committee and Jananeta Irawat Foundation, Imphal observed the 110th birth anniversary of the Luchingpurel at MDU, Imphal.
The function was attended by N Bijoy Singh, an associate of Irabot as chief guest and chairman of the Celebration Committee S Satradhari Singh as president.
A host of other luminaries like secretary of CPI (M) Manipur State Committee Dr Y Mahendra Singh, former secretary of CPI (M) Manipur State Committee M Shamu Singh, MDU president G Joykumar Sharma and Prof of Economic Dept, MU E Bijoykumar Singh also attended the function as guests of honour.
