Imphal, October 01:
Maintaining that education should not be disturbed under any circumstances and by the various issues the State, the Students' Union of Oriental College has demanded unconditional and immediate release of MSF activists being detained by the State under NSA.
A statement issued by the Students' Union observed that the agitation undertaken by the MSF was for the common interest of the student community of Manipur.
Moreover, being a student body, MSF was forced to act when the students of Government aided colleges were denied education for more than three months.
Observing that the agitation undertaken by the MSF volunteers was for a just cause, the Khunai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Thoubal has also reiterated its demand for the unconditional release of the students.
In a press hand out, it said that education is a fundamental right of the students and there was nothing illegal for student leaders to demand fulfilment of such rights when some of their colleagues were denied education for more than three months.
It further cautioned the State Government of a momentous people's movement if the detained MSF volunteers are not released unconditionally soon.
Urging the same demand, the Poirei Ita Meira Paibi Apunba Lup noted that the State Government should frame a proper education policy and strictly follow it.
A statement issued by the Lup conveyed deep resentment against the State Government for continued detention of MSF leaders who only demanded fulfilment of the right to education to the aided college students who had been denied the right for more than three months.
Cautioning the State Government to heed the demand of the people before the issue goes out of hand, it asked the State to redress the issue of aided college students at the earliest.
