Imphal, July 22 2011:
With the objective of addressing the issue of fertilizers being sold at inflated prices, a joint meeting of Agriculture officials, fertilizer dealers and peasant organisations was held today after which a joint monitoring committee was set up.
The meeting held at Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat's office agreed on providing fertilizers to farmers at subsidised rates through dealers.
The meeting was attended by one fertilizer dealer each from Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts, representatives of the Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association, Loumi Shinmi Apunba Lup, MLAs and Government officials.
State Nodal Officer (Fertilizer) Kh Gopenchandra has been appointed secretary of the 13-member monitoring committee.
It was also unanimously agreed to publish a bulletin on daily basis about movement and distribution of fertilizers.

With the Government ready to release Rs one crore, the meeting decided to give subsidy amount to dealers on the basis of the number of fertilizer bags they would be selling.
The meeting also deliberated on providing urea to farmers at Rs 420 per bag within the next 4/5 days.
Though that there is a standing instruction of the Govt to sell urea at Rs 420 per bag, the dealers have been selling urea at higher prices contending that the rate fixed by the Govt has no profit margin for them.
