Pledge taken to protect human lives, values

Like in other parts of the country, pledges were taken to protect human lives and values as Manipur too joined in the observance of 22nd national anti-terrorism day today.
The observance is held to commemorate the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Led by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and Deputy CM Gaikhangam as the chief guest and president respectively, the observance function was held today at the Secretariat South Block, wherein those present vowed to strive for peace, promote cordiality amongst different communities and create a conducive environment for mutual cooperation and understanding.
Pledges were also taken to tackle acts of terrorism in a non-violent and resilient manner.
Highlighting futility of all acts of terrorism and strongly advocating solution of any outstanding problem through peaceful negotiation, Chief Minister O Ibobi called upon all concerned to contribute their mite in making Rajiv Gandhi's dream of a terrorism-free society a reality.
Remembering the late Prime Minister as a visionary leader, whose initiative made Indian citizens eligible to exercise their franchise right upon attaining 18 years of age, the CM described demise of Rajiv Gandhi as a great loss for the country.
Speaking at the occasion, DyCM Gaikhangam highlighted that national anti-terrorism day is being held throughout the country for the past many years to commemorate the death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, who was slain in a terrorist attack during an election campaign in Tamil Nadu.
Asserting that except loss of human lives and properties terrorism will never bring any positive outcome, Gaikhangam suggested that every section of the society abandon path of violence and embrace peaceful means to settle any problem.
apart from Ministers and MLAs, the observance was also attended by top civil and security officials of the State Government.
