Accused remanded to 6 days police custody

Imphal, August 14 2017:
The three arrested individuals, inclu-ding two police personnel, who were allegedly involved in the IED blast yesterday morning at Kakwa Naorem Leikai near Lairembi gate, were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West Court today and remanded to six days police custody .
The three individuals identified as Sapam Nanda alias Makar (50) s/o S Sana-tomba, Pipa Yaima Maring (29) s/o P Angphung Mar-ing of Khanggoi Khulen Machi and Thingbaijam Sanjoy (35) s/o Th Dronjit of Kakwa Naorem Leikai, were produced before the Court by a team of Singja-mei police with a prayer for 10 days custody remand till August 23 .
According to the prayer, yesterday, after the blast took place at Kakwa Nao-rem Leikai, a team of Imphal West district police launched a massive search operation and raided suspected areas based on inputs from their own sources as well as inputs shared by 6 Assam Rifles .
During the raid at Koirou Part I, Thongju, Sapam Nanda and Pipa Yaima were picked up on suspicion at around 10.20 am and during preliminary interro- gation, both of them revealed that they, along with Thingbaijam Sanjoy, are directly involved in the crime .
Thingbaijam Sanjoy was picked up from near the gate of Singjamei police station at around 5 pm after a massive manhunt and on spot questioning, he admitted that he, himself, had assembled the IED in the morning and detonated it at around 9.40 am after planting it near Kakwa Naorem Leikai Lairembi gate, to sabotage the celebration of the coming Independence day.
From Sanjoy's disclosure, a huge quantity of explosive materials which were being kept submerged in a drain located at the backyard of his house were recovered at around 6.30 pm .
On further questioning, Sanjoy revealed that the three of them are working under the command of Premkumar alias Aheiba Angom alias Tamocha of Bashikhong, self style Major/ Chief of Finance of PREPAK .
He also revealed that he, along with Nanda, received the explosive material about one month back in front of MU gate, Canchipur.
It also came to light that Sanjoy already received training in assembly and planting of IED from his Commander, some months ago, at Moreh .
The police prayer further submitted that the arrested individuals admitted that they are planning to explode a series of IEDs at different places of Imphal West on the eve of the Independence day celebration .
The Court perused the APP of the State and the case record and remanded the three individuals to six days custody remand toll August 19 .
On the other hand, according to reliable source, two of the individuals are working as Head Constable in Manipur police, namely Pipa Yaima who is posted at Imphal East commando and Thingbaijam Sanjoy who is currently posted at Singjamei police station.
