Education Minister M Okendro has declared in the State Assembly today that the Government has chalked out a plan to dismantle school buildings which are 50 years old or more.
He further informed that 11 Government Junior High Schools including Madhumati Jr H/S, Irengbam have been upgraded to the level of High Schools.
In addition, 116 schools have been upgraded under RMSA scheme.
Construction of buildings for the upgraded schools would begin after the Government of India releases the necessary fund, stated Okendro.

He also assured that shortage of teaching staff in Tumukhong Primary School, Yambem P/S, Moirangpurel P/S and Poiroukhongjil P/S would be addressed by July 13 .
Okendro was replying to a question raised by Th Shyamkumar.
Works Minister Dr Th Ratankumar, responding to a question raised by O Lukhoi, stated that necessary fund for construction of a bridge over Imphal river at Iram Siphai was earmarked in the annual plan amount of 1999-2000 .
However, the earmarked amount could not be utilised as it was released very late and the project was closed on January 29, 2004 .
Nevertheless, the Works Minister said that he would see if the same project can be included in the work programmes of 2012-13 even though the budget allocation for PWD for 2012-13 is very small.
Altogether 39 vehicles were damaged during the twin economic blockades of 2011, said Dr Ratankumar who is also in charge of Transport Department in response to a query raised by K Sarat.
Total compensation amount of Rs 1,70,15,870 for 29 vehicles has been already paid through the Transporters' and Drivers' Council Manipur.
