Imphal, July 10 2012:
Police today marred a rally of the All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur against the UPA-II policy.
Meanwhile, the AITUC strongly condemned the police action in foiling the proposed rally.
Members of the AITUC gathered at Irabot Bhavan this morning at around 8 to join the nation wide protest launched by the AITUC.
Hordes of the Trade Union Congress members marched out from Irabot Bhavan with placards reading, 'take measures against price hikes,' 'stop engaging workers on contract basis,' 'ensure regularisation of contract employees and ensure minimum wages of Rs 10,000 per month to workers including workers in the unorganised sector,' 'fix the daily wage of MGNREGS workers at rs 188,' etc.
However, the police have stopped them on their way to Manipur Press Club via BT Road and asked them to proceed any further.
Later, a public meeting was held at the Manipur Press Club where various speakers spoke strongly against the price hike of essential commodities and the recent hike in the price of petrol.
