Education Minister assures appointment of adequate teachers

Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro today assured the State Assembly that the government would appoint adequate number of teachers since the ban of Finance Department on recruitment of teachers has been lifted.
Replying to a question of MLA Th Shyamkumar, who drew the attention of the House over the lack of teachers in many government schools during the Question Hour session of the Assembly today, Minister Okendro said that the government was facing certain difficulties in trying to up the vacant post of teachers due to the ban of Finance Department as well as pending of a case in the Gauhati High Court.
But this would not be so in near future as the ban of Finance Department on recruitment of teachers has been lifted.
The Minister admitted that Moirangpurel Primary School in Andro A/C which has 187 students has only one teacher.
Tumukhong Primary School which has 284 students has two teachers, Changamdabi Primary School with 302 students has three teachers, Yambem Primary School with 122 students has three teachers and Poitopukhongjin Junior High School with 860 students has 11 teachers.
Moreover, buildings of most of these schools are in deplorable condition.
The Minister M Okendro also informed the House that 11 Junior High schools have been upgraded to High Schools while 116 more Junior High School have been upgraded to High School under RMSA.
MLA Shyamkumar urged the Minister to recruit the required teachers at the earliest for the sake of future of the students.
Responding to a question of MLA K Meghachandra, Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister Gaikhangam assured the House that the government would review inclusion of Somrei, Tangkhul Khullen, Komlaching, Soraland, Houton, Irong Part I, Irong Part II, Phouoibi, B Phainom, Haokhongching and Saram Tangkhul under Saikul Sub Division of Wangkhem A/C .
PHED Minister I Hemochandra told the House that Phundrei Water Supply Scheme, which is being taken up at a total project cost of Rs 124.49 lakhs, is being targeted to be completed by March next year.
