Imphal, May 10 2022:
Categorically stating that no notice has been issued yet for allotment of shops being constructed over the upper storeys of the three Ima Keithels of Khwairamband, the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) has warned those who are giving and collecting money in the name of allotting shops would face penalty.
Speaking to media persons at their office today, IMC care-taker Mayor L Lokeshore said they have received reports of some individuals collecting Rs 10 lakh each in the name of allotting one shop on the upper storeys of the Ima markets.
If any IMC Corporators or staff are found involved in the fraudulence, they too would be penalised as per law, Lokeshore said.
The IMC has neither issued any form nor started collection of any money in connection with the shops being constructed, he clarified.
Appealing to all the shopkeepers who run their businesses in areas covered by the IMC to get their shops registered, the IMC care-taker Mayor urged the shopkeepers to register their shops within 15 days.
If any shop is found not registered after this period and the shopkeepers do not possess licence, they will be either fined or penalised, he said.
He also appealed to all the residents of areas covered by IMC not to dispose garbage and waste materials at public places at night and early morning.
Claiming that the initiative of keeping away street vendors from Khwairamband Keithel is now a big success, Lokeshore said that traffic congestion has declined considerably as a result.
He also conveyed gratitude to the Imphal West SP and the OC of City police station for their contributions in making the initiative a success.
