International Women's Day celebrated

Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai has exhorted the womenfolk of the State to gather strength and courage and work hard to be self-reliant and achieve the goal for 'Planet 50-50 by 2030 : Step it up for gender equality' .
She was speaking as the chief guest at International Women's Day celebration jointly organised by Social Welfare Department and Manipur State Women Development Corporation Ltd at Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Chingmeirong today.
Saying that no society is possible without women, the Minister said that understanding and sharing of ideas between men and women is the only key to social development.
Contending that a woman's role in shaping the future of her child is comparable to managing the affairs of a Nation, the Minister said that no human civilization is possible without mothers.
AK Mirabai said that women must be given respect and they must be cooperated to live with dignity by ending crime against women like oppression, outraging modesty and killing etc.
Saying that the goal for 'Planet 50-50 by 2030 : Step it up for gender equality' would not be achieved if the womenfolk discourage themselves, the Minister called upon all for widespread participation of women in social, political and economic activities.
State Commission for Child Rights Chairperson S Saratkumar said that public, Government and people working in different fields have separate and distinct roles in achieving the target of the themes announced in connection with the observation of International Women's Day every year.
He said that it is a must to impart awareness to the public on the entitled rights of women and children.
Khangabok AC MLA O Landhoni, Principal Secretary (Social Welfare) SK Dev Verman and Social Welfare Director L Nabakishwor attended the function as president and guests of honour respectively.
Plays on oppression of women and songs dedicated to the contribution of womenfolk were presented as part of the function.
