Liquor sale at Pineapple Festival irks many

Even as drive against liquor sale in different parts of the State has been intensified by police, food stalls at the 10th State Level Pineapple Festival cum Buyers and Sellers Meet and Youth Festival, 2017 were found selling liquor on the concluding day of the event .
The event which drew to a close yesterday was organised jointly by Horticulture Department and Development Organisation Andro Kendra under the sponsorship of North East Council (NEC) with the objective of promoting pineapple in the State .
Many people were seen consuming Indian Made Foreign Liquor at food stalls on the concluding day of the festival which was held at Yairipok Thambalnu Market under Andro AC .
Interacting with this reporter, one of the visitors wondered how food stalls were allowed to sell liquor openly by the organizers of the event .
He said that many food stalls served Indian Made Foreign Liquor and beer to visitors in the presence of women and children .
He claimed that the food stalls charged Rs 300 for a 500 ml of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and Rs 220 for a beer bottle.
