Imphal, October 29:
Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) has decided to clean up all the drainage system within its jurisdiction before the upcoming Ningol Chakkouba festival and has accordingly given approval for sanctioning Rs 3 lakh for the task.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Council held at its meeting hall today with chairperson G Mangoljao Kabui presiding over it.
Although the Planning Cell and Publicity Committee of the Council put up the matter for releasing Rs 10,000 each for each of 27 wards for the purpose, the chairperson of the Finance and Assessment Committee Jibonmala contended that the amount to be released was large and should be reduced.
After a serious discussion on the matter, the meeting unanimously decided to release Rs 3 lakh.
On the matter related to pending salary of the employees for the last 25 months, Moirangjao sought the co-operation of the councillors in collecting taxes so that at least two months salary could be given to the employees before the Ningol Chakkouba.
In consideration of the suggestion raised by the Finance and Assessment Committee, the meeting decided to start levying taxes from the shops located along the eastern boundary of DM College and along BT Road.
The meeting also approved the suggestion of Public Health Committee for providing masks to the IMC sweepers while performing duties.
With regard to the quantity of fuel oil that would be needed by the Council for its vehicles, the meeting fixed the stock requirement at 1000 litre per month.
It may be noted here that the Council has 10 vehicles including a JCB at its service.
These vehicles are said to be using 90 to 100 litre of fuel oil on an average daily.
