Following an agreement between the State Government and representatives of tribal student bodies today, the hill districts bandh and indefinite economic blockade have been suspended with immediate effect.
The agitation was spearheaded by the Kuki Students� Organization and supported by several tribal student bodies including ANSAM and ATSUM to condemn the killing of three students on October 25 by Imphal East police commandos at KR Lane.
The meeting held at the Chief Minister�s Office Chamber today afternoon was also attended by TD Minister Phungzathang Tonsing and FCS Minister Ngamthang Haokip, MLA K Korungthang, Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh and the State DGP besides the CM.
As per the agreement, the Government decided to suspend four police commandos involved in the killing, ex-gratia payment to families of the deceased persons and to institute a judicial inquiry to determine the facts within 15 days from today.
The suspended commando personnel are identified as Sub-Inspector Md Riyajuddin and constables Md Soukat Ali (C/No 861234), N Muhindro Singh (9801086) and Md Latif Rahaman (0101285).It may be recalled that the three persons killed by the commandos on alleged ground of being underground activists are Limkhongam Baite (21) s/o (L) Lamkhosei Baite of Moreh W/N 5 - a TDC III yr student of DM College Arts; LS Thangkhopao Baite (16) s/o Holkhokhai Baite Moreh W/N 1 - class X student of Moreh Govt High School; and Thenminthang Baite (15) s/o Jamkholun Baite of Moreh W/N 1 - class X student of Moreh Govt HS.
To protest the killing of the three, KSO had imposed a 24 hour general strike from October 26 midnight followed by hill districts bandh and indefinite economic blockade along both the National Highways.
A press statement of the KSO conveying suspension of the agitations and expressing gratitude to all organizations for extending cooperation also regretted the inconveniences caused to the general public during the agitation period.
Meanwhile, a silent rally and sit in protests were held at Moreh town today to denounce the killing of the three students.
The hill district bandh called by Kuki Students� Organization and supported by various student and social bodies to condemn the killing was relaxed from 5 till 10 am at Moreh area.
The silent protest rally participated by around 1500 students began from Moreh High School campus where two of the three deceased had studied.
The rally passed through Moreh Forest Gate, Hospital road, Chabangphai, Pangal Basti, Gate No 1&2, Prem Nagar, Dalpati till the main market place.
The protestors also held placards inscribed �Gun is for Enemy�, �We Demand Justice�, �Stop Killing Students� etc.
