Imphal, September 22:
The order of the CO to vacate the family line of Ist IRB from Kangla has been stayed by the High Court.
As part of a Comprehensive Security Review measures taken up by the Government after the lethod bomb attack by PREPAK at the official bungalow of Chief Minister on the night of September 1, the CO had issued an order directing the family members of 126 jawans of Ist IRB staying in the family line of Kangla to vacate.
However, objecting to the order the wives of the jawans jointly filed a complaint in the High Court on September 11 which subsequently stayed the order.
In the complaint, the petitioners mentioned that they have been staying in the family line since August 1996 and among them there are many surrenderees and others coming from far flung areas of Manipur as well as from outside and prayed for staying the order of the Commandant until an alternative accommodation has been arranged for them either inside Kangla or elsewhere.
It may be recalled here that acting on the instruction of the Home Department, the DGP had written a letter on whose basis the CO issued on order on September 5 directing the family members of 125 jawans staying in the family line to vacate within September 10 .
After taking up the case for the first time on September 19, the High Court deferred its hearing till today.
However, when the case was taken up for hearing today, the Advocate of the Government requested for giving some more time assuring that an affidavit would be submitted on coming Wednesday.
Accordingly the Court postponed the hearing till next Wednesday.
In protest against the order of the CO, the family members of the jawans had gheraoed the gates of Kangla on September 7 .
