Lok Sabha MP from Inner Manipur Dr T Meinya an Iftar Party for Delhi Manipuri Muslims last evening at the lawn of History Dept, Jamia Milia Islamia University, Jamia Nagar here.
Delhi Association of Manipuri Muslim Students organized the Iftar Party.
About 150 Manipuri Muslims mostly students and a few families joined the Iftar Party which took place at 6.22 pm.
Dr Meinya expressed his happiness to see the development of Manipuri Muslims at Delhi contributing their services at the high level in Universities, Colleges and other establishments.
Talking about the Delhi Association of Manipuri Muslim Students, the founder President of the Association Md Habibur Rahman, serving as Lecturer at Alfalah School of Engineering and Technology, Faridabad said that the Association was formed in
1996 .
It has about 300 members and its annual activities were holding a two-day sports meet, Iftar party and Freshers meet.
Since last year, the Association has published a souvenir highlighting socio-political-economic situation of Manipuri Muslims and the problems faced by the communities.
At present, about 50 Manipuri Muslim families are settled in Delhi, he added.
At the Iftar Party, mixed fruits with milk and dates were offered to the gathering.
It was followed by Namaz and a sumptuous dinner with the items of chicken biryani and chicken korma.
It may be mentioned that Iftar, refers to the evening meal for breaking the daily fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan or a meal served at the end of the fasting day during Ramadan, to break the day's fast.
Literally, "breakfast." Iftar during Ramadan is often done as a community, with Muslims gathering to break their fast together.
The time for Iftar is 12 to 15 minutes after Sunset.
It is usually to break one's fast, preferably with water, milk or dates.
Meanwhile, Delhi Association of Manipur Muslims Students has greeted all the people of Manipur for the upcoming Id-ul-Fitr.
