Under the aegis of Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Petroleum Conservation Research Association will observe Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight from January 15 till 31 with the State level observation to be formally kick-off by the FCS Ministry Y Erabot at the Diamond Jubilee Hall of DM College of Science, here tomorrow.
The main highlight of the opening day's programme would be an inter-college quiz competition on the subject theme.
During the observance period mass awareness campaigns on saving fuel/energy would be conducted at educational institutions of the state in addition to organising competitions in drawing, essay, slogan writing and ex-tempore speech.
speaking to mediapersons ahead of the fortnight observation today, State Level Programme Coordinator Amarjyoti Bordoloi, who is also the Imphal Divisional Manager of Indian oil Corporation Ltd highlighted that with India racing towards progress requirement and consumption level of petroleum product too had been on the upward scale.
Such requirement do not necessary mean excessive use of the natural resources as unchecked exploitation of vital energy sources such as fuel and gas is certain to disturb the ecological balance the end result of which would be disastrous to the human being, the Coordinator cautioned.
Bordoloi also elaborated that compared to annual crude oil production of about 34 million metric tonne the total demand stands at over 126 million metric tonne a rate of very high in every context vis-a-vis other developing countries.
He also appealed to the consumers for economical utilisation of the essential energy sources so as to close the yawning gap between production and demand.
