Imphal, January 14:
The Manipur Human Rights Commission has served notices on the RIMS Director in connection with the death of a mother and her child during a delivery case at the hospital in October last year.
The rights panel asked the RIMS Director to furnish a detailed report on the matter by January 29 and fixed the next day for further hearing.
This followed a petition filed by one Heisnam Kameshore Singh of Thanga Heisnam Leikai who alleged that his wife and child died due to negligence of the doctors.
In his petition, Kameshore said that Dr Doren of RIMS had been treating his wife, Shanti from the early stage of her pregnancy.
As advised by the doctor, his wife was admitted to RIMS hospital on October 8 last year .at about 10 am.
Dr Doren after examining the ultra sound report told Kameshore that there was nothing to worry about after which the doctor left for home at about 3 pm.
At about 3.30 pm, Shanti was taken to the labor room where one doctor, Dr Prameshori Devi said that the delivery could happen anytime between 7 and 7.30 pm.
However till 7.45 pm nothing happened, added the petition.
As time went by, Kameshore felt anxious and lie approached one Dr Kikol to call Dr Doren, hut the doctor made no move to call Dr Doren maintaining that the task of looking after patients was his (Dr Kikol) duty.
Thereafter Kameshore went to a PCO and contacted Dr Doren, but the doctor refused to come and simply told him (Kameshore) that it was already dark.
At about 8.50 pm, the nurse on duty told Kameshore that a boy was born but however the next moment, he saw Dr Doren rushing towards the labor room and the other doctors on duty were seen running around, said the petition.
After a few minutes Dr Doren told Kameshore that the newly born child had died, the petition further said.
At about 10.30 pm, Kameshore was asked to buy some medicines, which he did so, added the petition.
Later at about 1 1.35 pm, Kameshore was asked to provide two units of blood and he rushed to the Blood Bank to get the same.
Doctors from the labor room rushed out and look the blood bottles away, said Kameshore adding that his wife was' taken to the operation theatre at about 11.45 pm.
However his wife died before she could be operated upon, said the petition.
Kamesliore said that his wife and child died due to negligence and demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs.
