The Manipur Drivers' Welfare Association, MG Avenue today observed Drivers' Day at the premises of the association.
H Tikendrajit, M Ibohal President of Manipur Drivers Welfare Association, O Amuba Chairman Manipur Drivers' Welfare Association and Y Lokeshore Secy of Manipur Truck Owners' Welfare Association graced the occasion as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Th Iboyaima Advisor AMUCO, Ito Tongbram President AMUCO and Dr Dhanabir Laishram Advisor AMUCO were also present.
M Ibohal addressing the gathering said the Manipur Drivers' Welfare Association has taken up many schemes for the welfare of the drives.
The association has benefited about 42 drivers to self employ under the scheme of Tension free and Accident Free.
This year we have been planning to open a school for the students.
The proposal has been approved and is likely to start within no time.
There is no proper land and at least 6 or 7 acres of land are required he said.
A pension scheme for the drivers was announced.
Sixteen widows will be benefited and they will get Rs 500 per month till death.
The case will only consider the cases of poor widow, who lives hand to mouth.
Further loan may be considered if the loanees become sincere on repayment he said.
Ch Kunjeshwore of Bamon Leikai and L Dhamendra of Keishamthong Longjam Leirak were given bravery award by the association.
The award consists of Rs 1000 cash and certificates and is sponsored by Passenger benefit assurance Welfare Society.
Four drivers were given disable award.
Nine drivers were given Accident free award of Rs 500 and certificate.
Ten drives were given old age award.
