NSCN(I-M) today sought active support of political leadership for resolution of the Naga issue and exuded confidence that the on-going peace process would bear fruit.
Leaders of the insurgent outfit Isak Chishi Swu and Thuilgaleng Muivah, who met top political party leaders since they arrived here on Sunday, said "we appreciate the understanding and the receptiveness of the leaders.
We are convinced that the Government is sincere in resolving the more than 50 years, of Indo-Naga conflict through peaceful means".
"There is no room for doubt that the ongoing peace process shall bear fruit," the NSCN(I-M) said in a statement issued by the Emissary of its 'Collective Leadership' VS Atem.
Besides Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the two leaders called on former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and VP Sinah, BJP president LK Advani, CPI(M) general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet, NCP president and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
The statement said the NSCN (I-M) leadership briefed the leaders about the "uniqueness and the situation of the Nagas as well as on the progress of the talks".
The NSCN(I-M) statement said the organisation was "convinced that any honourable settlement to the ongoing Indo-Naga political talks requires the active support and wisdom of the Indian leaders at every level of the process".
It also "acknowledged the positive role of the Indian media in building confidence and creating the right consciousness within the Indian public".
