MSAD shows serious concern for deprived minorities in Assam

Imphal, November 08 2020: Manipuri students Association Delhi (MSAD) showed serious concern over the fate of minorities communities of Assam.

In a statement, the MSAD said that people of Assam and Manipur have been in good terms of relationship in various spheres even before India got independence from the British empire.

The statement said that the deprived minorities including Meetei and Meitei Pangal in Barak valley and those scattered in the districts of Dima Hasao Nagaon Morigaon Kamrup Karbi Anglong, Tinsukia and Jorhat who share a common language, socio-cultural norms, and traditions, have been struggling a prolonged effort for their own survival and safeguard, all at their own level without any political support.

On the minority people in this region particularly the Meetei and Meitei Pangal have been facing huge political, social, cultural, and economic disadvantages and are facing great difficulties in their struggle for survival and safeguarding themselves, the statement added.

It added that their dignity of living in this region, is at stake.

Without political safeguards, the people have been facing an unrestricted loss of their own land in the hands of migrant influxes from the neighbouring country.

The people, particularly have been facing negligence and been suffering from poverty.

There are cases of Manipuri medium schools trying to be shut down in the pretext of low performance instead of taking up measures to strengthen the same, depriving the people to study in their own language.

Their voices concerning social and economic deprivation and impoverishment have been nowhere to be alighted it added.

The demand for political, social, economic and linguistic upliftment from the minority Meetei and Meitei Pangal is considered legitimate in view of the privileges granted to the similar backward communities namely Moran.

The minority Meetei and Meitei Pangal have been living in the Barak valley and scattered in the districts of Dima Hasao, Nagaon, Morigaon.

Kamrup.

Karbi Anglong.

Tinsukia.

and Jorhat.

Mauipur Students' Association Delhi stands in solidarity with the deprived minority Meetei and Meitei Pangal in the Barak Valley and various districts of Assam, who share a common language, socio-culture norms, and historical circumstances with those in Manipur.

MSAD adjure the concerned authority to kindly look into the situation and lake up favourable actions.
