Hockey India president Gyanendro accorded grand reception

The Manipur Hockey today organized a grand reception of the newly elected Hockey India president Gyanendro Ningombam at the premises of Imphal International Airport.
Gyanendro Ningombam is the first person from Manipur and North East to hold such a post of a National sports federation.
He was elected unopposed at the 10th Hockey India congress held in New Delhi on 6 November last, said a statement of Manipur Hockey.
On his arrival at the airport, president of Hockey India Gyanendro had expressed optimism that Hockey development will be possible in the State with the commitment of the State Government, it said.
He called upon all hockey players and organizers at the grassroots levels to sincerely work towards Hockey development in the State, it continued.
The reception program was attended by president and office bearers of Manipur Hockey, members of district units, players and Hockey lovers, it said.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the reception, secretary of Manipur Hockey, Seram Neken had said that election of Gyanendro Ningombam of Manipur as the head of Hockey India is a proud moment for the sports lovers of the state, it said.
It also quoted Neken as saying, "During his presidentship, there is an ample opportunity to develop Hockey in the State.
The State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, has also committed to construct hockey grounds in each district".
The secretary also had appealed to all hockey players and officials of the State to come forward and take this golden opportunity, it continued.
