Capping off the four days sit-in protest in front of the DC office Ukhrul, the Students Union of Pettigrew College is all set for another phase of agitation by calling a 24 hours Ukhrul District bandh beginning from midnight of September 8 to September 9 midnight.
Talking to this correspondence, the general secretary of the student body and the executive council said that despite the humble and democratic agitations launched by the students of the college from August 30, till date out of 6 lecturers posted to the college on August 17 only 3 lecturers have given their joining report while the other three lecturers are yet to follow the transfer order of the Government.
The reports were given on September 3.Coming down strongly on Education Minister L Nandakumar for failing to implement his assurance, the student body said he has no business to be a Minister if he cannot honour his promise.
The general secretary further stated that over the years the lone Government college in Ukhrul district and one of the oldest colleges of Manipur, which was established in 1965, has been neglected by successive Governments and today the students can no longer tolerate this.
Schools continue to be targeted : The Paomai Students Union (PMT) and the Mao Students Union have ransacked Government schools under their respective jurisdictions in protest against Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's recent remarks on the text books issue and the alleged false propaganda of Education Minister L Nandakumar, reports NNN.
Poumai students president said Paomata High School and Tunjoy High School were substantially damaged.
The Mao students president also said that two Government were ransacked today.
