Various social organisations have exerted pressures on the Government for taking up necessary action against the personnel of Excise Department who were allegedly involved in illicit trafficking of local-made liquor (Sekmai) as well as for prevention of consumption of all kinds of illegal drugs including tobacco, wine etc, in the State.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, 13 different women bodies and Meira Paibi Lups of Heingang Kendra demanded that the personnel of Excise Department involved in the recent scam of illicit trafficking of locally made liquor, popularly known as Sekmai be placed under suspension with immediate effect.
The women bodies also prevailed upon the Chief Minister to take up necessary action from the side of the Govt to prevent peddling/illicit trafficking of all kinds of illegal drugs including tobacco, wines, etc and to put a blanket ban on use of such illegal drugs and other substances in the State.
The memorandum jointly signed secretary of Keikol Semgat Sagatpa Nupi Marup Th Inai Devi, secretary of Kontha Women's Social Reformation and Development Society Ng Ibetombi Devi, secretary of Luwangsangbam Awang leikai Meira Paibi Lup M Phajarei Devi, secretary of Ima Panthoibi Meira Paibi Lup (Chingmeirong Awang Leikai) Indi Devi, secretary of Matai Village Women Welfare Association N Tampha Devi, secretary of Meira Paibi Lup (Achanbigei) Tharongoubi Devi, secretary of Lamlongei Yaipha Thouda Nupi Marup L Itabi Devi, secretary of Chingmeirong Maning-Mamang Nupi Association K Kamini Devi, secretary of Koirengei Bazar Nupi Marup Barni Leima, secretary of Laisana Women's Welfare Association (Koirengei) L Gulamachu Devi Devi, secretary of Luwangsangbam leimarol Leishemlup Meira Paibi N Binameima Devi, secretary of Lamjing Meira Paibi Marup Sanahalbi Devi, secretary of Kontha Ahallup Nupi Chaokhat Thoudang Lup G Nungshitombi Devi and secretary of Koirengei Nilakuthi Lamkhai Women's Welfare Association L Radha categorically stated that all the Meira paibis residing within Heingang Kendra are prepared to launch a series of agitation if the Government does not take up timely and prompt action in connection with the above stated demands.
While acknowleding the mass anti-drug campaign being taken up by All Manipur Anti-Drug Assn (AMADA), the joint memorandum also announced that all the Meira paibis of heingang Kendra would support AMADA morally, physically and financially in fighting against drugs and alcoholism.
Meanwhile, Luwang Leimaron Leishem Lup Meira Paibi (Luwangsangbam Makha Leikai), Laisna Women's Welfare Assn (Koirengei), Chingmeirong Maning Mamang Nupi Kanglup Assn, Koirengei Bazar Nupi Marup, Lamjing Meira Paibi (Laipham Khunou Maning Leikai), Kontha Women's Social Reformation and Development Society (Kontha Khabam), Luwangsangbam Godown Leikai Women's Welfare Assn and Lamlongei Yaipha Thouda Nupi Marup, in separate statements, wondered why the Govt has not taken up action against the guilty Excise personnel.
