Lamka, September 08:
Manipur Hills Journalist Union today issued a 'circular' after deliberating for two consecutive days on the various grievances encountered by its members due to the intrusion of various armed groups in their universal right to freedom.
Aggrieved that some unwanted elements with intimidation deride and tried imposing their terms on some of its members the statement detailed the various facets of media and said it is its duty to disseminate events or incidents in its true form.
It re-iterated a previously issued statement and said any statement issued by individual or organization without authentication and designated signature will be discarded.
Specifically mentioning the 'armed group' it said any announcement/assertion by them should only be through their media cell/information & publicity deptt.
Any intimidation and threat to the media being an intrusion and act of contempt to the Press community, the Journalist Union's circular said, it will cohesively strive to uphold its rights in unison with various organizations.
The decisions mentioned in the circular were binding for all members, both electronic and print media until further notice, it said.
