Chairman of Planning and Development Authority K Ranjit (MLA) today inspected the market sheds construction site which is being taken up under the Ministry of Urban Development�s Integrated Development of Small & Medium Town.
The PDA Chairman was accompanied by Commerce and Industries Minister N Mangi, Moirang AC MLA S Gopal and Oinam MLA L Radhakishore.
The inspections began from Kumbi where the twin market sheds, numbering three rows each have been completed but due to differences of opinion among the Kumbi local people the proposed construction of shopping kiosks adjacent to the sheds have been put on hold.
Taking opportunity of the inspection, K Ranjit appealed to the people to resolve their differences so that the construction activities could be expeditiously completed before the Central Government funds amounting to Rs one crore lapses.
Later the inspection team surveyed similar constructions being taken up at Moirang where construction of 24 shopping kiosks have been completed under the first phase costing 30 lakhs, out of which the State share is reported to be Rs 16 lakh.
Remaining portion includes 14 shops and the market sheds for which the Chairman assured to resume construction activities by next month.
At Kwakta market shed construction activities have been completed for 16 shops while 10 remain to be finished.
Construction activities are also on at Sugnu and Kakching Khunou.
In 2001-02 the Centre released fund for construction of the market sheds under the Urban Development of five number of small/medium sized market sheds after which additional fund were also released for six more similar constructions at Oinam, Keinou, Samurou, Wangoi, Andro, Sikhong, Sekmai and Heirok areas.
