Irked with indifferent attitude of the Government towards the demand for complete revocation of AFSPA from Manipur even after the whole student community has joined the ongoing agitation putting their academic careers at stake, All Manipur Students� Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students� Federation (MSF) and Democratic Students� Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) have cautioned the Ibobi Ministry against taking the movement of the students lightly.
In a joint statement, the three student bodies observed that the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers should not ignore the angry voice of the students.
The power of students in different parts of the world are a force to reckon with which can change the course of history and fate of a Nation, the statement jointly signed by AMSU president Ksh Umesh, MSF vice president L Ibomcha and DESAM president L Romesh said, and recounted the students� revolt in France in 1968 which let to the downfall of the De Gaule Government.
Instead of dancing to the tune of the Central leaders, the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers should initiate steps to withdraw AFSPA completely from the State and save the people from the excesses of the security forces, the statement demanded.
Meanwhile, stepping up the class boycott stir of the students as part of the ongoing mass agitation for withdrawal of AFSPA, Bishnupur district committees of AMSU, MSF and DESAM have announced boycott of class of all the educational institutions within their respective jurisdiction till the demand of the people is fulfilled.
Imphal East District Committees of the three students� bodies have also boycotted classes of all the educational institutions within their jurisdiction till removal of the Act from the entire State of Manipur.
Similarly, All Manipur Students� Union (AMSU), Khurai Branch has closed down all the educational institutions located within its jurisdiction indefinitely with effect from tomorrow as part of the ongoing agitation spear headed by the 32 organizations for withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
Announcing this, branch president S Somorendro Singh appealed to all the teachers and students to extend their co-operation and support in the ongoing movement.
On the other hand, Paree-Imom Sindam Sang has boycotted classes from September 6 to 8 demanding removal of AFSPA from Manipur and punishment of guilty AR personnel involved in the killing of Thangjam Manorama and Saichang village pastor Jamkholet Khongsai.
Reacting strongly against the indifferent attitude of the State Govt towards the demand of the people for the removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State, All Manipur Joint Hr Sec Students Union Manipur has called for an indefinite class boycott in all the Higher Secondary Schools of the State from September 8.
