Stating that the ongoing investigation to probe the custodial death of Thangjam Manorama Devi would need more time Chairman of the Th Manorama Death inquiry Commission Ch Upendra has intimated to the State Government seeking extension of one more month.
According to reliable sources, the Chairman has cited sizeable number of 17 Assam Rifles witnesses being listed to testify before the panel and submitted an application to the State Chief Secretary yesterday appealing for the extension.
Earlier, the Government had ordered the completion of the whole process, including submission of report, within August 13 but the Commission sought extension till September 13 and another extension of the same period as per yesterday�s intimation to the Chief Secretary.
The Government had on July 13 instituted the inquiry to establish the facts and circumstances leading to the death of the 32 year old Manorama, who was picked up 17 Assam Rifles personnel from her Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai residence on the intervening night of July 10 and 11.Meanwhile, the cross examination of the 17 AR Major continued in camera at the Central Jail premise today, said the source while informing that Major may take another one or two days time to complete giving his testimonies.
Another Major of the same AR unit will also be examined by the panel soon after the current cross examination completes.
The panel had already completed examination of the 17 AR Commandant Col Jagmohan Singh.
