Imphal, February 07 2010:
Taking serious note of the difficulties and inconveniences caused by closure and suspension of emergency services and teaching activities in RIMS following the agitation launched by four associations of RIMS's teaching and non-teaching staff since yesterday, DESAM has called upon the four associations to direct their agitation against the authority responsible for irregular payment of salaries.
Closure of emergency services in RIMS is causing great difficulties to patients in need of urgent attention as well as the general public, it noted while appealing to the agitating employees to re-open emergency services.
A press release issued by the student body further appealed to all employees working in health care sector to desist from such agitation which would victimise all the people.
Deploring suspension of academic programme as a part of the agitation, DESAM noted that this is against the campaign to make education a disturbance free zone.
Suspending academic activities indefinitely at a time when efforts are being made to keep education out of all forms of agitation amounts to forfeiting rights of RIMS students, it said.
It again appealed to the four associations of RIMS staff not to disturb academic activities for any reason whatsoever.
While calling for suspension of the ongoing agitation in the interest of public, DESAM urged upon the authority concerned to bring a solution to the issue at the earliest.
