Imphal, February 07 2010:
The trafficked 19 Manipuri children who were rescued from a children home in Chennai would be brought back to Imphal tomorrow.
According to information received by the press, along with two officials of the State Social Welfare Department and some guardians, the children have left Guwahati in a special bus at around 2 pm today.
Belonging to Bishnupur and Imphal West district, the 19 children were reportedly taken away to Chennai on July 28 last year on false assurance of providing free education.
However, they were rescued from Reach Home Children Foundation by officials of Child Welfare Committee, Chennai last month.
All 19 of them were reportedly found being kept together in a small and dingy room which lack basic infrastructures.
Consequent to the rescue, Social Welfare Department, Govt of Manipur had written to the Commissioner of Social Defence, Government of Tamil Nadu for taking care of the children.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Soibam Mala, a representative of the Meira Paibis of Manipur Basti at Guwahati informed that a team of Chennai police brought the 19 children to Guwahati today and handed them over to the custody of Rajbari Athletic Club at Manipur Basti.
Club arranged for their journey home along with the officials who came from Manipur to receive them.
