Cadres of KNA who are on cease fire with the security forces under Suspension of Operation has allegedly beaten up two villagers of Leishan village including the village chief in Tengnoupal block of Chandel district on February 1 last.
The two villagers injured in the assault were treated at KCC Hospital.
They were identified as Thenkhomang Mate (29) son of late Hoakhojam Mate, chief of Leishan village and Ngamkhai Mate (30) son of late Jamthong Mate.
Recalling the incident injured village chief said the assault incident occurred at about 4.30 pm of February 1 last at T Bongmoul road.
Around 13 cadres of the KNA in combat dress stopped them while they were travelling on a motorcycle and beat them up with a stick telling them that it was an order of the higher authority.
After beating them up, the cadres also ordered them to come back with another villager name Daniel Gangte, son of Lumkhohen Gangte, informing that they have a standing order to kill him the instant spoted.
Observing that till the KNA cadres are present on the road (T Bungoul), the lifeline road of the villagers, villagers cannot move freely without fear and apprehension as to what might happen to them, said the villager chief in an interaction with reporters here, asking whether these cadres of KNA are sent by the authorities to do as they please.
He further said that assault on villagers or civilians might not be permitted under agreement of the Suspension of Operation and if authorities do not flush out them from the area, they will launch an agitation against the state government.
He also informed that since the assault, villagers can no longer live peacefully in their village.
The village chief drew the attention of the government to the plight of the village.
