The structural assessment exercise for setting up of a Dental College in the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has been completed with two inspectors of the Dental College of India (DCI) carrying out final survey work last month.
According to an official source, the two DCI inspectors arrived on April 28 and scoured the sprawling RIMS campus for two days.
They left Imphal on April 30 .
The duo's assessment report is supposed to be submitted to authorities of the Dental council within two days after completion of the entrusted task or on reporting for duty, the source informed.
subsequent procedures for establishment of the Dental College include submission of inspectors' survey report by the Dental Council authorities to the Union Health Ministry after which the latter would be issuing Letter of Intent followed by issuance of Letter of Permit.
Confiding that there is positive disposition of the DCI with regard to establishment of dental colleges in a medical institute, the source expressed confidence that all the necessary procedures would be cleared for commencement of the Dental College development works within the current fiscal.
In at all the Dental college comes up the RIMS authorities had been proposing enrolment of 50 dental students in an academic session out of which 15 percent of the available seat would be at the disposal/prerogative of the Central Government and the remaining numbers to be shared among the States, the source maintained.
On the other-hand, the RIMS authorities have had extended assistance to 24 cancer patients while 26 others would be covered in the next phase with similar incentive.
