Imphal, May 02 2009: A 27 YEAR-OLD house-wife having two daughters was brutally shot dead by two unknown persons in her own house located at Iroishemba Maneeng Leikai under Lamphel police station around 8.30 pm yesterday.

In other incidents, combined security forces have killed six youths suspected to be underground insurgents allegedly in encounters that took place at six different places from April 30 till today.

The young house-wife, who was shot dead in cold blood yesterday, has been identified as Aheibam Ongbi Keisham Ningol Rameshwori @ Bembem.

She was the wife of Aheibam Nanao of Iroishemba Maning Leikai.

She is survived by her husband, a five and a half year-old daughter and another only a year-old daughter.

Her grief-stricken husband told this newspaper today that last night around 8.30 pm, he and his elder daughter went to a shop nearby to purchase some edibles for the children.

While he was at the shop, he heard the sound of a gun-shot.

Since the sound was not too loud, he thought it could be the sound of a cracker bursting.

When he returned along with his elder daughter, he saw two men running out of his house hurriedly.

He got suspicious and quickly entered his house and found his wife rolling in pain on the ground injured with gun-shots.

With the help of neighbours, she was immediately rushed to RIMS Hospital.

But as they arrived at the casualty department of the RIMS Hospital, the doctor pronounced her dead.

One bullet hit her right cheek and pierced through the forehead.

The bereaved husband further said that three unknown men came about four months back and told him to stop using and selling No.4 (heroin), and had warned that if he does not stop, he would be given severe punishment.

His wife does not use No.4, Nanao said adding that apart from that, no other warning had been given to him.

He expressed ignorance about who shot his wife to death.

Post mortem was done on the dead body of Rameshwori, but the family has not yet taken the body till tonight and is still lying in the mortuary of RIMS.

In another incident that happened at Gobajan village about three kms north of Moreh Police Station on April 30, troops of 31 AR shot dead a man of about 30 years old said to be an underground insurgent.

The body has no ring holes in his ears, wears a pair of hunting boots and black shirt, and is about 5 feet 9 inches tall.

One lethode gun and two live bombs were recovered from is possession, police said.

In another alleged encounter which took place at Keirao Awang Pat, Takhok Palli Kachin under the jurisdiction of Irilbung Police Station at about 7.10 pm last night, a combined force of Imphal East district police commando and 28 AR killed another suspected underground militant.

The deceased has been identified as Md Mustafa @ Azharuddin (25), Jalaluddin of Keirao Makting Makha Leikai.

One .32 pistol and a magazine containing two live bullets were said to have been recovered from the deceased.

However, family members said, Mustafa was arrested by some personnel of AR in civvies around 10 am yesterday from Lilong Bazar.

The family members had been trying to track his whereabouts since 2 pm yesterday, they said.

Md Khamba (27) elder brother of the deceased Mustafa @ Azharuddin, was also shot in his right calf by two unknown persons near their house around 9 am yesterday and has been admitted at RIMS Hospital.

In yet another incident death occurred around 1.45 pm this afternoon at Changoubung under Kangpokpi Police Station, a team of police led by OC of the same Police Station, L Haokip shot dead one of two youths who were trying to forcibly collect extortion money from the inter state service buses.

One US made 9mm pistol and three live rounds were said to have been recovered from the deceased, police said here.

According to police, on receipt of an information that some persons were trying to extort money from the inter state service buses at Changoubung, a team from the Kangpokpi PS led by the OC rushed to the spot.

On reaching the spot, the police team found a bus parked there.

When the police asked the passengers in which direction the extortionists had gone, they pointed at an autorickshaw which was driving away from the area.

The police team immediately chased the autorickshaw.

On seeing the police chasing the auto, two persons jumped out of the autorickshaw and started firing shots at the police.

The police at once retaliated and killed one of the two persons.

However, the other man, taking advantage of the firings, fled and escaped.

The deceased person could have been a member of KCP (MC), police believed.

In another incident that happened at Kangpokpi bazar also under Kangpokpi Police Station, cadres of KNF (P) shot at and injured two activists of KRA.

T Simte, Secretary, Information and Publicity of KRA told this newspaper that the incident happened when some cadres of KNF (P) who came in a Bolero fired shots at two cadres of KRA while they were sipping tea inside a hotel.

On hearing sounds of gun-shots, troops of Assam Rifles came out and opened fire at the fleeing cadres of KNF (P) in the Bolero injuring one of their cadres identified as Kaminthang Mate (22), son of Lunsei Mate of Kangpokpi Ward No.2 .

The AR troops recovered one 9mm pistol and two live rounds from the injured KNF (P) cadre.

He has been taken to JN Hospital where he is being treated.

Both men are members of two Kuki militant organisations which are signatories to the Suspension of Operation.

In the meanwhile, a press statement of Clay Khongsai, senior superintendent of Thoubal district police informed a combined team of the district police commandos and 21 AR gunned down a militant suspect in an encounter at Kakching Makha Leikai Uya Lambi along Kakching-Komlathabi road, Thoubal district Friday night at about 11:00.There were three youths, however the other two managed to escape in the dark, stated the senior SP.

A 9mm pistol with two live rounds was recovered from the encounter site, added the SP.

The SP further informed a combined team of the Thoubal district police commandos and 20 AR gunned down another suspect during an encounter along Langol Minou road Saturday afternoon at about 2:45 .

The combined force recovered an M-16 rifle with a magazine and 10 live rounds of ammunition, a Kenwood set, two Chinese hand grenades and the dark Maruti van bearing No.MN-04A/0566 .

Family has identified the body of the youth killed at Kakching Uya road as Thounaojam Surjit @ Thambou (22), son of Th Khomei of Langmeidong Mamang Leikai.

The family is saying that the deceased is an innocent civilian, he was arrested by a team of police commandos from his house yesterday and killed him today.
