The proscribed UNLF has claimed that its armed wing, the MPA, inflicted heavy losses on the security during a series of strikes launched in July.
In a statement, the outfit said that on the adjoining night of July 11 and 12, its cadres attacked the 14 CRPF post at Churachandpur community hall with rockets and inflicted heavy damages.
On July 14 at about 8.30 pm, the MPA cadres attacked the 54 Mountain Brigade Division at Chakpikarong, said the statement adding that another attack was also launched on the adjoining night of July 14 and 15 at the 132 CRPF post at Moirang Khunou.
Some CRPF personnel were injured in the attack, it claimed.
Again on July 16 night the MPA cadres attacked the 54 Mountain Brigade Division at Kathong village at Chakpikarong.
The room where the officer of the security personnel stayed was attacked with a rocket and the room was burnt, said the statement adding that the MPA cadres also laid booby traps along the way.
The pursuing security personnel were caught unaware by the booby traps said UNLF adding that field reports indicated that a number of personnel died in the bomb traps.
On July 16 at about 10 pm, the 14 CRPF post at Tuibong in Churachandpur was attacked.
Though a statement issued by the security personnel said that one jawan was killed while another 9 were injured, actually the death toll was 3 while those who suffered grievous injuries tallied 7, claimed the statement.
The outfit further said that 3 Assam Rifles including a Havildar were killed when its cadres attacked a patrol party of 19 AR at Namthilok on Imphal-Ukhrul road on July 28.The cadres decamped with one 7.62 LMG with four magazines and one INSAS rifle with four magazines.
