The Mao Students� Union urges the Government to revoke the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 in the interest of the North East people.
The people of this region have experienced enough suffering and harassment from the uniformed men who thrives under the immunity granted by the Act, said a press statement.
It is also a shame for the country that boast to be the largest democracy in the world when other states are prospering in different fields compared to suffering of the NE people under the brutality of security forces, added the Union.
This region still remains stagnant due to this draconian law.
Therefore, it is high time for the Govt to understand the pulse of the people and let it go along with the pace of the other states on the development front, it further added.
The Mao Students� Union also condemned the barbaric act committed to the truck driver and handyman in between Makhan and Maram on the National Highway 39 on July 30 at around 6 pm by unidentified persons who attempted to loot the passengers.
The Union expressing resentment on the incident also assured to trace out the persons involved for stern action.
Relief aid: Volunteers of Kuki Students� Organization, Imphal Branch today distributed relief materials to the mudslide/landslide victims of Gopibung, Keithelmanbi, Songpekjang and Makuli Nepali villages yesterday.
Informing that the relief materials have been donated by different Churches, institutions, clubs, organizations and individuals, the students� body has expressed its sincere gratitude to all the donors.
