Imphal, September 30 2016:
Concerned with the recent setbacks to the party in the North East including the defeat of the party in the recently concluded elections in Assam and the removal of Congress Government from Arunachal Pradesh, the Congress party is now focusing on minorities (Christians and Muslims) to re-emerge as the dominant party of the North East region.
As part of this strategy, the Minority Department of the All India Congress Committee is formulating a strategy for the Congress party to attract the minorities (Christians and Muslims) towards the Congress party.
The department has entrusted Congress ideologue from Assam Rejaul Karim Laskar to develop the strategy after visiting all the eight States of the region and holding interactions with the Pradesh Congress presidents and other senior leaders of the Congress party.
Laskar, who is former spokesperson of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee is also a prominent author and scholar.
He will be visiting all the eight States shortly and hold interactions with the PCC presidents concerned and other senior leaders of the eight States of the region and based on these interactions he will submit his report to the AICC Minority Department.
This strategy assumes significance in the backdrop of the coming Assembly elections in Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland which have sizable Christian population.
