Imphal, September 30 2016:
The 120th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was observed here today at Rupmahal Theatre under the aegis of the Lamyanba Irabot Ningshing Thouram Observation Committee (LINTOC).
Offering of tributes and public discussion on the life and works of Lamyanba Irabot were the main features of the commemorative function.
Prof Arambam Lokendra moderated the discussion session while Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) convenor Dr Y Mani Khuman and LINTOC convenor L Dhana Luwang were seated on the dais as presidium members.
Manipur College Assistant Professor (Economics) L Gojendra gave a lecture on the topic 'Irabot and his ideology for an independent, self-reliant State'.
Manipur University Reader Th Bharat presented a paper on 'Irabot's ideology towards forging hill-valley unity' .
Later moderator Prof Arambam Lokendro gave a summary of the public discussion session.
Speaking at the gathering, PPCM convenor Dr Y Mani Khuman said, "We all want change and development and for this we must struggle with perseverance".
Until and unless development and progress become a reality in Manipur, people of Manipur must study the ideology and works of Lamyanba Irabot not only in the month of September but throughout the year, and follow his footsteps.
"We must compare the challenges faced by Lamyanba Irabot with the socio-economic and political reality of contemporary Manipur", Dr Mani asserted.
The present generation need to change their mindset, outlook and broaden their perspective.
Sectarianism has no place in this age of globalization, he asserted.
Some believe that all the people of Manipur should have common aspirations politically, economically and socially.
But such a belief is impractical.
There should be enough space for fair competition and challenge in order to make Manipuri society dynamic and progressive.
Following the footsteps of Lamyanba Irabot can resolve most of the existing major differences, he asserted.
